Understand Myself alternative

Two Big Five assessments, built for different kinds of result

Understand Myself is the personality assessment led by Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. Its current public page describes 100 questions and comparison with a proprietary sample of 10,000 people, producing percentile rankings across 15 traits.

Macro Focus includes a different instrument: 120 IPIP-NEO statements scored deterministically in the browser. It saves five domain scores from 0–100. Those values are scale positions, not population percentiles. The two reports are not interchangeable.

Different tools for different jobs

Neither list is a scorecard. It is a practical way to identify which product is shaped around the job you actually have.

Where Understand Myself is especially useful

  • A standalone, one-time assessment purchase
  • Norm-referenced percentile results
  • Five-factor and ten-aspect reporting
  • A proprietary comparison sample and its specific report format

Where Macro Focus is especially useful

  • A Big Five snapshot that remains in no-charge Limited Access
  • Questionnaire scoring performed in the browser
  • Answer text remaining on the device
  • Saving only five numeric domain snapshots, without an AI personality narrative

Which one should you choose?

A useful comparison should make it easier to leave for the other product when that product is the better fit.

Understand Myself

Choose Understand Myself if you want its specific norm-referenced report and aspect-level interpretation.

Macro Focus

Choose Macro Focus if you want a simpler IPIP-NEO-120 snapshot, local scoring, and a place to keep that reflection beside the direction and experiences it may help you examine.

The no-charge fallback is real—and bounded

Limited Access keeps one manual Focus aim and goal with up to three total steps, up to 50 active text Notes, 30 active Journal entries, finite text Wisdom, and the locally scored Big Five 120 assessment. It makes no paid AI or voice-provider calls.

Core and Plus cover the provider-backed services you deliberately start: a bounded AI response, spoken journal transcription, optional journal summaries, narration, and tentative Patterns. Live transcription can automatically detect language, but results vary by language, accent, recording quality, and provider availability. The transcript remains editable.

What the card-backed trial actually does

Nothing is charged today. The selected Core or Plus plan begins automatically after 14 days unless you cancel in Settings. Cancel during the trial and complete access continues through its end; the account then moves to Limited Access with no scheduled expiry or recurring charge while the account and service remain available.

Questions people usually have

Short answers to the points most likely to change the decision.

Is Macro Focus's Big Five 120 the Jordan Peterson test?

No. Understand Myself is its own proprietary assessment and report. Macro Focus uses a bundled IPIP-NEO-120 questionnaire and saves five locally calculated domain scores.

Is the Macro Focus assessment diagnostic?

No. It is an optional self-reflection instrument, not a diagnosis, treatment tool, employment screen, relationship verdict, or professional psychological opinion.
